IRS Revokes Charity Status of Another Chance 4 Horses

Two horses that went through Another Chance 4 Horses in November 2013.

The IRS has revoked the charity status of the purported horse rescue, Another Chance 4 Horses (AC4H), in Pennsylvania.

The organization’s federal tax exemption was pulled in May 2014, and published online August 11th. AC4H failed to file its annual paperwork for three consecutive years, according to the agency’s records. AC4H is operated by founders, Christy Sheidy and Rick Sheidy. According to the Berks County group’s website, Glenn Schlappich and Nicola Cox are board members.
This isn’t the first time the controversial organization has been scrutinized by authorities. The state of Pennsylvania issued a Cease and Desist Order against AC4H in August 2013. The order states the organization is not registered with the department’s bureau of charitable organizations and must cease soliciting contributions within the state. The penalty for violating the order is up to $1,000 per violation and $100 for each day the violation continues. We attempted to reach an official in the state’s charity office, but our call was not immediately returned.
AC4H is not currently registered as a charity with the Pennsylvania Department of State. As of July 22, someone posting on Another Chance 4 Horses Rescue Facebook page as the administrator seeking sponsors for two thoroughbreds, allegedly rescued by AC4H.
The FBI has been investigating AC4H on allegations of fraud. Feds raided the group’s location in April 2013 looking for evidence of multiple crimes, including conspiracy and wire fraud. No charges have been brought. Our call to FBI Special Agent Charlene Trux was not returned.
Christy Sheidy did not respond to our request for a comment.
